New Year's Eve 2015 live: Fireworks and pictures from around the world as we welcome in 2016

Taiwan, China
It's time to bid farewell to 2015 and celebrate the New Year 2016. Some countries are already in 2016 and are celebrating in different ways and of course not forgetting the huge fireworks on display. A 238 second display was launched from the enormous skyscraper Taipei 101, watch here

Samoa was one of the first to mark the new year with New Zealand following an hour later. Due to different time zones, here are the other countries that have celebrated or will celebrate the new year first before the rest of the world.

Large parts of Australia including Melbourne and Sydney
Queensland area of Australia including Brisbane
Japan and South Korea
China, Hong Kong and Singapore
Indonesia and Thailand
India and Sri Lanka
Pakistan
Russia
Greece and Egypt
Germany, Spain, France and other European countries.
United Kingdom and Ireland
Brazil
Some parts of Canada
Parts of US including New York and Washington
Outlying islands of US

Other cities around the world including Tokyo and Sydney have celebrated 2016 in the past few hours. Sydney earlier celebrated the new year in style with a huge firework display. More than a million people lined the streets to watch what some described as 'the best fireworks in the world'. An incredible display took place over the Sydney Harbour Bridge accompanied by music.

Stunning images were broadcast around the world. Parts of Australia follow New Zealand and Samoa in welcoming in the new year. Below are some of the latest videos and pictures of celebrations from around the world.

In Auckland, an impressive fireworks display lit up around the Sky Tower. Take a look:

And Samoa, the first country to usher in 2016, celebrated the new year with their traditional festivities. See video:

Instead of spectacular fireworks like many cities across the world, North Korea celebrated 2016 with bizarre broadcast. Their broadcast featured a woman talking to camera. See a clip of the video below:

In the UK, extra armed police officers have been drafted onto London’s streets tonight over fears of a terror attack. A huge fireworks display will take place on London’s South Bank which has already sold out.

With all these firework displays from around the world, makes me wonder what my dear country Nigeria has in store for us. Will there be firework displays or...LOL!
