Former House of Reps member, Nze Chidi Duru charged with stealing



A former House of Representatives member, Nze Chidi Duru and a senior lawyer, Smart Iheazor, were tried before a Magistrate Court in the Tinubu area of Lagos ‎Island over allegation of stealing.

The duo, residents of Abuja, are both senior lawyers of 28 and 30 years of experience in the Bar. The police preferred against them a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, breach of peace and impersonation. The defendants and their accomplices who are still at large allegedly committed the offences at 65 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja Lagos on January 11, 2017.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendants and others stole three office files and one HP Laptop valued at 250,000 Naira, property of First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL).

He also said that the duo conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by wilfully and unlawfully invading First Guarantee Pension Ltd office with intent to forcefully take over the management and assets of the company.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adefulire, granted them bail in the sum of 500,000 Naira each, with one surety each in like sum. The case was then adjourned till March 9 and 10, for further hearing.

The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
