Buhari launches tree planting, instead of tomato planting, in Kaduna

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday launched the “Keep Kaduna Green Project”, a project designed by the Kaduna State government to fight desertification. The project aims to plant I million trees annually.

Buhari lamented that Nigeria has the highest rate of deforestation in the world, even as he hailed Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i for a “worthy and timely project”, which he said would reverse the deforestation trend in the country.

El-Rufai said the projection is to engage about 26,000 persons in the project.

“Our government considers the ‘Keep Kaduna Green’ project an important intervention. In planting one million trees every year, we intend to achieve many goals, one of which is to check desertification.

“We will be creating jobs for the people who will plant and nurture the trees. The trees will ultimately grow and improve the look of our cities and towns and give the reassuring feel that leafy neighbourhoods should be accessible to all residents,” El-Rufa’i said.

LOL!. In other words, trees are more important than tomatoes. Nigerians will soon join goats to eat grass and leaves from the trees that'll be grown. Masters and PhD holders will be employed as tree planters and nurturers. Forgive me but this is too damn hilarious. Its sad to say but, the truth is, we are being governed by a bunch of clueless leaders.
